The First Team of the first contingent of Air Force Aviation Unit helicopter deployment under the United Nations Mission in the Republic of South Sudan (UNMISS) returned to Sri Lanka Thursday after completing a 12-month tenure.
This 55-member SLAF team was replaced by the First Team of the second contingent of 55 personnel who left Sri Lanka Wednesday from Bandaranaike International Airport.
The helicopter deployment is tasked to carry out VIP transportation, transportation of food and equipment, domestic flying, para dropping and medical evacuation in the South Sudan, in support of the overall UN mandate for that nation.
