Following the successful commencement of the Sri Lanka Technological Campus (SLTC) in September 2015, registrations are now open for the second intake beginning September 2016. The new term will begin in October 2016. The first intake included 120 students. SLTC is one of Sri Lanka’s first corporatepowered institutions of its kind, facilitating the much needed universityindustry collaboration in order to help build the nation through a qualified, dedicated next generation of individuals thus maximising employability and creating entrepreneurship amongst students both locally and globally. The SLTC Engineering degree program offered by the Engineering Faculty is an ideal opportunity for aspiring students.
The entry qualification for the degree program is in line with the Sri Lanka Qualifications Fr amewo rk whi ch includes minimum three passes at the GCE A/L Examination in one and the same sitting in the physical science stream including Combined Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics. Students with the equivalent London A/L results and those with pending A/L results are also encouraged and eligible to apply. Students are taught u n d e r a s y l l abu s designed to provide sound theoret i cal , practical and analytical knowledge with the fundamentals of engineering and technology, which is developed in accordance with the Washington Accord. Students have the option of transferring to a top tier foreign university after two years or to complete the four-year degree program offered by SLTC.
“We are extremely satisfied with the outcome of our first year,” said SLTC Head of Operations Miran Fernando. “We have had time to overcome teething problems and now the students and staff alike have settled in very well at our Padukka campus.” The SLTC signed a Letter of Intent with UK’s Lancaster University, which will enable both parties to offer a 2+2 undergraduate Engineering program leading to a degree awarded by Lancaster University. The proposal means that the first two years of the programme would be taught at SLTC, Sri Lanka and the final two years at Lancaster University in the UK. The Campus is located at the SLT Satellite Station in Padukka, which is easily accessible from Colombo via common transport modes and can accommodat e s t u - dents in a comfortabl e e nv i ronment located on a sprawling 35-acre property. The campus also has all required facilities including Laboratories, Classrooms, Auditorium and Library. The administrative office and the city campus are based at TRACE expert city in Maradana.
