The premiere of King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, was screened at Liberty on 11 May by Scope Cinemas. The event was marked as a special accomplishment for Sri Lanka given that it’s the first time the country premiered a leading title before domestic release in the US. Skyline Entertainment & Consultancy Ltd., a leading distributor of Hollywood films in Sri Lanka, was responsible for presenting the film, in association with Scope Cinemas.
Sponsors for the event included Dialog 444, ARTv, with TNL Radio partnering as the main media sponsor.
Minister for Mass Media and Parliamentary Affairs Gayantha Karunatilleke attended the event, amid special invitees, media personnel and movie buffs.
Scope Cinemas Chairman Naveed Cader said that Scope Cinemas was privileged to have been selected to host such an event.
“This is a big one for Sri Lanka and we’re honoured that it was screened at Liberty, the first of our chain. We’ll be opening a number of screens all around Sri Lanka and hope to give our audiences more one -of-a-kind experiences like this one,” he said.
National Film Corporation Chairman Deepal Chandraratne noted that apart from the success of the event, that he was pleased that more screens, equal to the technology at the Liberty would be opened island-wide by Scope Cinemas, as it would elevate the quality of the movie-going experience for the people, and further strengthen the entertainment sector in the country.
Scope Cinemas is currently at the forefront of cinema technology with its screens and sound systems at the Liberty being the most advanced in the island at present.
The company has gained traction among moviegoers in Colombo owed to the formidable changes it hopes to influence within Sri Lanka.
Among them is Scope Cinema’s endeavour to provide its patrons with a greater range of food and beverage selection and its ‘no interval policy’ that ensures that moviegoers experience the full intensity of the movie without breaks or distractions; a policy currently implemented at the Liberty.
