Mahaweli Reach last week hosted Nepal President Bidya Devi Bhandari during her stay in Kandy during which she graced the closing ceremony of the 14th UN International Vesak Day celebrations as its Chief Guest.
She was accompanied by Minister for General Administration Keshab Kumar Budathoki and a delegation from Nepal.
The city of Kandy being one of the most important Buddhist sites as the home of the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic of Lord Buddha (Dalada Maligawa) was indeed the fitting setting for the closing ceremony of the UN International Vesak celebrations signifying the birth, enlightenment and passing of Lord Buddha along with the participation of the Nepalese President and the Nepali delegation as the sacred sites of these momentous events are located in Nepal.
