Children in care homes often have nothing to remember and never travel further than the orphanage district. To remedy this, an excursion to Leisure World was initiated by Voice Foundation for 70 children from a care home in Kandy on 18 June. This was no ordinary day for them – these children have not left the care home on an outing in several years. They were given the opportunity to experience and enjoy all the rides and adventure at Leisure World. Volunteers were also assigned to each child who accompanied them throughout the day. The event was fun-filled with thrilling rides, food and ice cream. The glow on the children’s faces showed their delight. Towards the end of the day, the children were heard saying ‘this is the happiest I’ve ever been’ and ‘I will never forget this experience’. The illumination of happiness from these children was the reflection of contributions from Voice Foundation, individual sponsors, Cure Poverty and Michael Moonesinghe and his generous EPFS community, making this event successful and memorable one for all participants.
