Union Bank appoints Priyantha Fernando as Acting Chairman

Union Bank of Colombo PLC has appointed Senior Director and Deputy Chairman Priyantha Fernando as the Acting Chairman with effect from 1 July.

The appointment follows the retirement of incumbent Dr. Pangal Jayendra Nayak who is reaching the retirement age of 70 in compliance with Direction No.3(3) (i) of Banking Act No.11 of 2007 on Corporate Governance for Licensed Commercial Banks in Sri Lanka.

Fernando was first appointed as Deputy Chairman on 30 May 2017.

He has more than 35 years of experience in the banking and finance sectors. He was attached to the Central Bank of Sri Lanka serving in senior and diverse capacities. He was the Deputy Governor of the Central Bank in 2010-2011 in charge of the Financial System Stability and the Corporate Service clusters. Fernando also holds directorships in Commercial Leasing and Finance Company Ltd, Taprobane Holdings Ltd, Ceylon Leather Products PLC, Imperial Institute of Higher Education, Thomas Cook Travels Sri Lanka Pvt Ltd and Equi Capital Investments Ltd.
