AMW Manufacturing, Sri Lanka’s pioneering tyre manufacturer, has risen above the challenges of the past year with a very positive outlook for 2021.
The company has dealt exceptionally well with COVID-19 and thrived amidst the novel market challenges to record impressive growth during 2020. This has been the result of acting quickly and decisively to completely restructure the company’s internal processes so as to cater to a post-COVID marketplace.
Proactively rising to the COVID-19 challenge from the very initial stage, AMW Manufacturing worked closely with the Sri Lanka Standards Institute to implement a state-of-the-art COVID-19 Safety Management System and was the second organisation in the country to have its COVID-19 safety system certified.
As a result, AMW Manufacturing managed to continue its operations unhindered while ensuring the health and safety of its associates. With equal proactiveness, the entire organisation was repositioned for even greater customer focus, supported by a change of structure, internal processes, intensive training for all employees and a complete overhaul of SOPs to ensure faster response times and a single point of contact for customers.
The introduction of Lean management has reduced waste and improved customer value creation while the introduction of cutting-edge automation and information technology, right down to the production floor, has made real-time decision making simpler and dramatically improved operational efficiency.
“Our strategic initiatives are centered on creating customer centric organisation supported by engaged employees, lean business practices and technology, which will ensure that we live our promise of ‘Going the Extra Mile,’” AMW Director Lasantha Wijeweera said. “Our focus on superior product and service quality as well as customer value addition has delivered results during the past few challenging months. So, our investments in people, processes and technology will continue, and we are certain of achieving even greater results.”
He further commented: “As we forge ahead, we are very optimistic about the market, especially in our area of expertise – material handling tyres. We will continue to build on our present position of strength by frequently incorporating the latest technology as we strive for even better business success.”
Building further on its recent achievements, the company has significantly increased its overall capacity, with an impressive 70% additional capacity to be introduced in the ‘Solid Tyres’ sector. The organisation also retains its position as the market leader in the domain of Custom Compound Mixing, with the addition of yet another state-of-the-art Banbury Mixer to its product line.
AMW Manufacturing is a subsidiary of Associated Motorways Ltd. and enjoys a long and illustrious history with over 69 years in the tyre manufacturing sector. Today, the organisation delivers a range of high-quality products to a global clientele. AMW also works in close partnership with the Al-Futtaim Group, one of the world’s leading multinationals, originating in the UAE. This, in turn, gives AMW global reach, access to international expertise, and ensures continual growth.
