The graduating class of 2021 designers from AOD will host the Reveal Graduate Design Exhibition parallel to the global platforms of MBFWSL opening up at the Colombo Innovation Tower.

The exhibition will showcase design talent in visual communication design, fashion design and marketing, interior design and motion graphics and animation design. AOD and its class of 2021 invites the creative industries, exports and all businesses that can benefit from design-led innovation to visit the exhibition and connect with some of the most employable design talent in Sri Lanka. The exhibition is open to the general public throughout 10, 11 and 12 December 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Reveal joins the string of events that are taking on AOD’s ‘New Local’ vision this December, parallel to the global fashion event Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. Reveal is an annual showcase of the graduating designers from AOD, and has often been where Sri Lanka’s business community gathers to scope and hire the freshest design talent.

This year, the Reveal exhibition returns with its promise of great design talent at a time when commercial application of creativity is more important than ever before. Reveal 2021 embraces AOD’s recently-launched vision the ‘New Local’ by showcasing the young designers’ promise, hope and drive to boldly pursue big opportunities for Sri Lanka in a new post-pandemic world.

The New Local is a vision that communicates the importance of creative thinking, design and entrepreneurial spirit in the face of economic challenges. It is a message that is especially relevant with the graduation of young design thinkers of AOD, and will come through the works of many design graduates from international programs in visual communication design, fashion marketing and design, interior design and motion graphics and animation design.

Reveal, with the message of the New Local, also underlines the importance of design for export, positioning design thinking as an important changemaker and catalyst in Sri Lanka’s recovery from the current economic situation.

In fact, ‘design for export’ is one of the key themes of the exhibition this year, and calls to rethink Sri Lanka’s export strategy and highlights the importance of adding more creative value to major exports and adapting to global markets with changed needs.

Young designers are trained to study and understand the interests of global markets, and respond to these needs through their creativity. Reveal is where the business community and the general public will see how young Sri Lankan designers are doing this by creating products, spaces, solutions and services that respond to markets around the world.

For several years, Reveal has remained a place where Sri Lanka’s business community can meet designers in person, and understand their work before further meetings or recruitments. Known for connecting the right talent to the right business, Reveal often has companies immediately hiring designers before they even leave the exhibition, showing the local business’ keen interest and appreciation for design and product innovation. This year’s show is also expected to have the same success in helping businesses find the design talent they need.

Reveal features work where traditional crafts are seen with new eyes, where local stories are given global relevance and clever uses of technology allow us to harness the best of creative thinking. The exhibition demonstrates how Sri Lankan exports can be taken to new consumer niches beyond borders with the incorporation of design thinking into the process.

The exhibition will be open to the public under COVID-19 guidelines at the Colombo Innovation Tower between 10.30 a.m. and 5 p.m. from 10 to 12 December.
