Asia Business Outlook has declared Abans Engineering one of its Companies of the Year.

Abans Engineering, a Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MEP) services provider was conferred the recognition for its stellar performance in 2022 and adherence to industry standards. Asia Business Outlook, a periodical that offers a credible and comprehensive overview of the Asian business environment, elects 10 companies annually based on the contribution to their respective industries.

Abans Engineering Ltd., the engineering arm of the Abans Group, is one of Sri Lanka’s largest MEP Contractors, with a 28-year solid track record. It specialises in providing HVAC Systems, Escalators and Elevators, Electrical and ELV, Fire Detection and Protection and total MEP Solutions. It has been awarded the ISO 9001-2015 certification, recognising its efforts to uphold quality management as well as the 14001-2015 for its Environmental Management System.

The company is staffed by more than 260 employees of which over 100 are professionals, with 80 qualified engineers specialising in MEP solutions. With a sufficient stock of spare parts on hand and 24 hours on-call aftersales services conducted by factory-qualified professional engineers and technicians, clients can rely on Abans Engineering to ensure that once a solution is provided, all after-sales service requirements are met.

The scope of work undertaken by the company covers complete MEP services to airport terminals, apartments, shopping malls, high-rise buildings, operation theatres, office complexes, hotels, restaurants, factories and more. The total engineering solution provided to Colombo City Centre and the entire HVAC system for a 34-storey high-rise building of the Labour Ministry, the tallest Government building in Sri Lanka, are two landmark projects undertaken by Abans Engineering. The company is currently involved in an approximately Rs. 1.7 billion contract for the Defence Headquarters. Their enviable role in Cinnamon Life involves the installation of 88 elevators and 20 escalators in a single vertical transportation hub.

“The ability to timely execute such large-scale projects and give sound engineering solutions is the key to helping Abans Engineering stand tall among other players in the market,” emphasised Abans Engineering CEO Chinthake Kodippilikande.

Abans Engineering is the authorised exclusive agent for Trane Technologies (USA) offering products such as chillers, air handling units, and fan coil units for central air conditioning systems; the authorised exclusive agent for Mitsubishi Electric (Japan) offering products such as VRF type Air Conditioning Systems as well as an exclusive distributor for Hyundai (Korea) offering products such as vertical transportation mechanisms like elevators and escalators.

Such partnerships give Abans Engineering a competitive edge over others in the industry, as the sole service provider that offers comprehensive building solutions with end-to-end responsibility, as opposed to its peers who rely on third parties.

“We are not into contracting alone but provide end-to-end MEP solutions from designing, installation to maintenance and aftersales services. The knowledge-based differentiation strategy we follow is keeping competition irrelevant,” said Kodippilikande, elaborating on the reasons behind the success of the business. Kodippilikande has brought more than two decades of industry expertise to the table.

Such professionalism is to be expected of a company that provides mission-critical services to hospitals, data centres and telecommunication organisations among others. In keeping with the latest trends in the industry, Abans Engineering employs cutting-edge technologies to streamline operations, be it demand-based ventilation or IoT solutions for air conditioning and elevators. Abans Engineering hopes to collaborate with foreign contractors to expand its operations abroad in the near future.
