Access Engineering PLC, the foremost civil engineering enterprise in Sri Lanka, was recently awarded with a merit trophy of commendation at the Presidential Environmental Awards 2018.
The Presidential Environmental Awards is organised by the Central Environmental Authority with a view to recognise and reward industries, service sector organisations and individuals that have demonstrated environmental friendly attitudes and who have made significant efforts towards a pollutant-free environment through sustainable utilisation of the roots of the environment.
With the increasing emphasis being placed on the sensitivity towards the environment, corporates of today’s world are expected to demonstrate stronger stewardship towards the conservation and protection of the environment, and this award program will act as an alternative system to control environmental pollution besides the already established commands, controlling mechanisms, education and awareness programs.
The award ceremony took place under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena on 19 October and the awards were presented under several categories, ranging from academic/Government institutes to private institutes and individuals. Institutional environmental function, fulfilment of legal requirements, maintenance of notes on environmental activities, and environmental protection measures of the applicants were measured meticulously by a panel of reputed judges during the selection process of the winners of these coveted awards.
Amidst a stiff competition, Access Engineering was able to bag the Merit Trophy of commendation in the Vehicle Servicing Centre category for excellent environmental conservation at the Central Equipment Division, Hewagama, Kaduwela.
