Adani Energy Solutions Ltd. (AESL), India’s largest private transmission and distribution company and part of the globally diversified Adani portfolio, said that it has won a mega $ 3 billion power transmission project based on HVDC (High Voltage Direct Current) system.
It is AESL’s largest order win till date, taking its under execution order book to $ 6.5 billion and transmission network to 25,778 ckm (circuit kilometres) and 84,186 MVA transformation capacity.
AESL won the project under Tariff Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) mechanism.
The project includes establishment of 6GW HVDC system, 2400 ckm of transmission lines and 7500 MVA of transmission capacity. The project will help evacuate 6 GW renewable energy from various Renewable Energy Zones in India’s west and connect with demand centres in the north. AESL will deliver the project in 4.5 years.
AESL CEO Kandarp Patel said: “By enabling efficient evacuation of renewable energy from some of the most inhospitable regions of the country and connecting them to the national grid, AESL is playing its role in India’s decarbonisation journey. We will be deploying latest technology and practices to deliver the project in time and with minimal environmental impact.”
This would be AESL’s third HVDC asset, which is preferred transmission system for long-distance and bulk power transmission. It has already delivered one project and is in advanced stage of delivering another and is the only player in the private sector to have built an HVDC network.
