The Government of Japan has been conducting a Grant Aid for Human Resources Development Scholarship (JDS) Program since 2010 to help young Sri Lankan executive officers in the public sector develop their skills and knowledge, hoping that they will become future national leaders and contribute to the national development of Sri Lanka.

Through the JDS program, 105 public sector officials have been provided with the opportunity to study under two-year master’s degree programs in the fields of public policy, public finance, economics, business management, and environmental management at prominent universities in Japan.

Ambassador of Japan Akira Sugiyama hosted a reception at his residence on 26 February, with the presence of Dr. R.H.S. Samaratunga, Secretary to the Treasury, Ministry of Finance as Chief Guest, in order to welcome the returned JDS scholarship fellows. The Ambassador Sugiyama stated that the Government of Japan expects the JDS fellows to exercise leadership in development of Sri Lanka with academic knowledge and experiences acquired in Japan and to contribute to further strengthening the bilateral relationship between Japan and Sri Lanka.
