The Board of Investment of Sri Lanka (BOI) signed an agreement with Aura Apparel Exports Ltd., which is a 100% export industry company that produces woven and knitting garments including shirts, blouses, trousers and lingerie to the USA and European markets.
The agreement was signed by Aura Apparel Exports Chairman Dinesh Suranga. Also present at the occasion was BOI Director General Champika Malalgoda.
The company will employ more than 600 workers within two years and already employment has been provided for 400 of them.
The plant became operational on 25 February. It is located at the BOI Koggala Export Processing Zone.
Aura Apparel Exports Chairman Suranga said: “I have 20 years experience in the Apparel industry and I know it well and I am confident of its success. The BOI was very supportive. In this case, we took over an existing manufacturing plant that had been already in operation, but had relocated overseas.”
Regarding his future plans, he added: “I want to become an industry leader and therefore chose to invest in this excellent facility.”
