Kazi M. Aminul Islam, Executive Chairman of Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) will be in Colombo this week and will address the business community on opportunities available in Bangladesh as it aggressively opens up for investments in multiple sectors.

This year Bangladesh was elevated to a lower middle income nation by the United Nations and the economic growth has hit over 7% GDP making it a lucrative South Asian market for investors. The population of Bangladesh is estimated to be 162 million and its international trade accounts to $ 80 billion.

Sri Lankan companies in FMCG, logistics, ports, banking, shipping, education, hospitality, health, manufacturing, infrastructure and all other services have a great opportunity to enter this market as a strong reform agenda is driving economic growth and a positive outlook for businesses to invest for greater returns. Many international companies are focusing on Bangladesh and it is vital that Sri Lankan industries too make inroads to this developing nation. Already the Sri Lankan companies that are present there are doing well in their businesses.

A forum is organised at the Bandaranaike Centre for International Studies (BCIS) by the Shippers’ Academy Colombo, where the business community can interact with the BIDA Chairman and Bangladesh High Commissioner in Sri Lankan where they can understand the potential market information and investment opportunities.
