Brexit and its implications to Sri Lanka: seminar by CCC on 24 May

The evolving global trade environment poses numerous opportunities and challenges to countries like Sri Lanka. In an uncertain economic environment, the impact of Brexit is a development that the private sector needs to monitor. The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce (CCC) will hold a seminar including a discussion with a diverse panel consisting of trade experts, private sector representative and economists. 

The keynote address will be delivered by Lakshman Kadirgamar Institute Executive Director Dr. Ganesh Wignaraja, who will outline the Brexit process and provide both perspectives of the EU and UK. Wignaraja will also be discussing the international dimensions of Brexit amidst an uncertain global economic environment, while providing the overarching implications for Sri Lanka.  

Asian Development Bank Senior Country Economist Utsav Kumar in his presentation will provide quantitative estimates of the impact of Brexit under different scenarios on world GDP, with a focus on developing Asia and Sri Lanka. A presentation will be done by CCC Economist Jayani Ratnayake covering the trade, business and investment implications emanating for Sri Lanka from Brexit.                  

The three speakers will then be joined by Acting Additional Director General of Commerce Nimal Karunathilake and Sri Lanka Apparel Exporters Association immediate past Chairman and Omega Line Ltd. Group Director Felix Fernando, in a panel discussion moderated by CCC Chief Economist Shiran Fernando.
