Build SL Housing and Construction Expo 2021 in May

The Chamber of Construction Industry of Sri Lanka has organised the Build Sri Lanka Housing & Construction Expo from 14-16 May at the BMICH. 

This premier exhibition will be the first to be held this year exclusively targeting the housing and construction needs and organised by a professional institution, in fact the first since October 2020. The exhibition will cover all aspects of housing and construction from foundation to interior decor, electrical and plumbing items, landscaping, and property development and constructions services.

The Build SL exhibition has been held unbroken for the past 16 years and has been a major event looked forward to by builders and homeowners and the discerning exhibitors have consciously selected the Build SL exhibition to showcase their products and services because this particular exhibition covers all aspects and draws many visitors across the spectrum seeking to fulfill their needs. 

As the Government has recently relaxed import of ceramic tiles and sanitary ware, which was banned from last April, it will be a good opportunity to the companies selling these products to create a public awareness as many will be still under the impression of import ban on these. With the currency swap facility provided by China it is possible that import of other essential construction items as well can be allowed now.

Further, the Government is proceeding with infrastructure development costing Rs. 5,000 billion during the period 2021-2025 which will require massive construction inputs. This will definitely create a surge in construction activities in the future. Another motivating factor that will result in more construction demand is the low bank interest regime followed by the Government which will encourage more investments in property development.

There were some novel introductions last year such as property developers’ gallery that showcased apartment sales and also recruitment of construction workers by some companies. These will be provided at this exhibition as well. The property developers’ gallery last year was a huge success as the developers who took part could conclude many sales. Additionally companies that sell home appliances too are encouraged to have stall spaces at this exhibition. 

The chamber has received earnest requests from many stall-holders to continue with the exhibition this year because of the latent needs of those seeking to build and invest and also because of the overwhelming positive public response they received last year.

The chamber is positive that the industry can surge forward and has even themed this year’s exhibition ‘Yes – we can build Sri Lanka’ and encourages exhibitors to come forward and make reservations for stall spaces early. From responses received to date this exhibition is bound to be a huge success.
