Business networking session to upgrade diplomatic and economic relationship with Egypt

The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Egypt organised a Business Networking Session on 18 December at the Embassy premises with the participation of prospective Egyptian businessmen with regard to importing five selected potential products from Sri Lanka, namely, Ceylon tea, coconut products, rubber products, spices and sea food.

Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Egypt Damayanthie Rajapakse made the introductory remarks at the opening of the business meeting, while the Commercial Secretary Shiwanthi Abeyrathne made a presentation on the Sri Lankan products.

The samples of and pamphlets on the selected products received from the Sri Lanka Export Development Board were displayed and distributed among interested importers. A variety of Ceylon tea was served to the participants at the end of the program.

This will be the first step towards conducting a buyer and seller meeting in January 2020 in Cairo, under the Economic Diplomacy Program initiated by the Ministry of Foreign Relations Sri Lanka, where the importers of the selected items from Egypt and the exporters from Sri Lanka will be brought together under one platform in Cairo, for effective networking among the businessmen, aimed at augmenting trade relations between the two countries.

This event took place close on the heels of the Ministry of Foreign Relations of Sri Lanka Secretary Ravinatha Aryasinha’s official visit to Egypt, intended to further strengthen relations between Egypt and Sri Lanka in trade, investment, technology and knowledge sharing.
