CIPM Sri Lanka launches first-ever International Study Centre at Bangladesh

• As a national initiative and catalyst to increase forex inflows

Sri Lanka is currently facing its worst economic crisis since its independence in 1948. Against the backdrop of the adverse impacts of the COVID pandemic and a challenging macro environment, today, the island nation is in dire need of finding ways to increase foreign currency inflows. Playing a national role and supporting the country’s efforts to overcome the unprecedented crisis, CIPM Sri Lanka – the nation’s leader in human resource management, has broken new ground to establish the first ever International Study Centre in Bangladesh. Importantly, this national initiative will prove a vital conduit to support Sri Lanka’s economic recovery during this critical time enabling foreign exchange inflows and also growing the country’s reputation as a regional hub and the de-facto standard for HR professionals. The Study Centre will empower the HR fraternity in Bangladesh as they can obtain a recognised professional qualification in HRM.

CIPM Sri Lanka recently established the Bangladesh International Study Centre through a partnership with BSHRM Institution of Professional Development Ltd. (BIPD). BIPD is approved by the Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development UK (CIPD, UK), which earlier accredited CIPM’s own Chartered Qualification as a CIPD, the UK-recognised qualification. Signing the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was a red-letter day for CIPM Sri Lanka’s long history of more than 60 years. Moreover, it was the first time CIPM’s professional study program was introduced to a foreign country. The strategy was a development of the initial moves to introduce CIPM’s HRM Chartered Qualification to Bangladesh in 2021. 

A ceremony was held recently to ink the partnership and launch CIPM’s study programs in Bangladesh. The event was attended by BIPD Chairman Mohammad Mashequr Rahman Khan, BIPD Managing Director and CEO Mohammad Nazrul Islam, and BIPD Vice-Chairman and Director Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmed. Representing CIPM were CIPM President Jayantha Amarasinghe, CIPM Immediate Past President and APFHRM current President Dhammika Fernando, Vice President Ken Vijayakumar, Members of the CIPM Executive Council as well as the CEO of CIPM, senior staff members and some faculty members participated in this event. With the launch of the Centre, CIPM Sri Lanka believes it will be able to support the country’s current dollar crisis while developing international recognition for CIPM’s CQHRM (Chartered Qualification in HRM) program.
