CIPM joins hands with Benedict XVI Institute to extend HR courses to their students

CIPM Sri Lanka, the nation’s leader in human resource management, entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Benedict XVI Catholic Institute of Higher Education (BCI) based in Negombo for facilitating academic cooperation, knowledge exchange and capacity building for developing competent human resource management professionals to serve the economy of Sri Lanka. 

The MOU was signed on Monday 10 February by CIPM Sri Lanka President Dhammika Fernando and BCI Director Rev. Father Quintus Fernando, amidst the presence of members of the CIPM Executive Council and Business School including CIPM Business School Professional and Academic Affairs Director G. Weerathunga, CIPM Business School Chief Officer/Director U.A.C. Obeysekere, CIPM Sri Lanka Chief Executive Officer P.G. Tennakoon, CIPM Sri Lanka Senior Manager Examinations Indika Wijesiriwardena, together with BCI Department of Professional Studies Course Coordinator W.M.M.S. Barbara Perera. 

“In order to extend our reach to aspiring HR professionals in Negombo and surrounding areas, we are delighted to enter into this MOU with the BCI which is a highly respected institute for higher education in Negombo. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Board of Governors of the BCI for looking ahead and enabling CIPM to conduct the courses and programmes for the benefit of the students and professionals in Negombo and the surrounding areas,” said CIPM Sri Lanka President Dhammika Fernando.    

The human resource management profession is one of the fastest growing management disciplines in the world. HR professionals are increasingly playing a much needed strategic role in organisations which are being affected by the disruption that is brought about by changing lifestyles, digitalisation and technological developments. CIPM’s well-structured courses and programmes for human resource management are much sought after by aspiring HR professionals. 

“We are happy to have been given the opportunity to join hands with CIPM Sri Lanka in offering their much recognised HR courses and programmes for the benefit of our students in Negombo and the surrounding areas. This will provide them access to the best in the field of HR without having to undergo the long journey to Colombo in order to fulfil their aspirations,” said BCI Director Rev. Father Quintus Fernando. 

“The BCI has been exploring the possibilities of offering professional education programmes and courses in addition to our academic programmes. Hence, this MOU with CIPM Sri Lanka to offer professional HR programmes and courses is a much welcome initiative,” added the Rev. Father.  

Under this MOU, the BCI will facilitate the conduct of CIPM HR programs and courses at BCI’s lush green campus with technology enabled, state-of-the-art learning facilities including air-conditioned classrooms in the heart of the Negombo Town by the accredited faculty of CIPM on a revenue sharing model.

BCI is a leading institute of higher learning in Negombo, which guides its students through professional or academic programs to discover their dignity as human beings and to equip them with the attributes needed to be highly effective in their chosen fields and in society. Currently, BCI operates three departments namely Department of English, Department of ICT and Department of Professional Studies which offer a variety of study programs in their respective domains to cater to the educational needs of the prospective students.

CIPM was founded in 1959 – incorporated by Parliamentary Act No. 24 of 1976, amended by Act No. 31 of 2018. CIPM is affiliated to the Asia Pacific Foundation of Human Resource Management and to the World Federation of People Management Associations. CIPM, being a professional institute is also a constituent member of the Organisation of Professional Associations (OPA) Sri Lanka. Currently, CIPM comprises of over 1,600 Professional Members who serve in both public and private organisations. It was elevated to Chartered Status by the Parliament of Sri Lanka on 28 September 2018 by amending the original Act of establishment.
