The Institute of Certified Management Accountants of Sri Lanka (CMA) will conduct a webinar series on “Getting Over the Debt Problem” Series No. 2 on ‘Export Performance 2021 and Future Challenges to Drive Exports and Economic Development in the New Normal’ today from 6.00 p.m. to 8.00 p.m. via online Zoom platform.
This webinar will project the importance of the export sector that has achieved $ 15.12 billion in 2021 surpassing the figures of 2020. This includes the main sectors of apparel and textiles, tea, rubber based products, ICT/BPM/BPO, transport and logistics. With the challenges faced due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the unprecedented economic crises the only saviour is expanding and providing all incentives and preventing bottlenecks of the export sector to earn the valuable foreign exchange to the country. All exports are totally carried out by the private sector and need to be the driving force behind the export strategy and its implementation in the country.
The welcome address will be delivered by CMA Sri Lanka Founder President Prof. Lakshman R. Watawala. The keynote presentation on ‘Export Performance 2021 and Future Challenges to Drive Exports and Economic Development in the New Normal’ will be delivered by Export Development Board Chairman Suresh De Mel.
The keynote presentation will next have short addresses by speakers of each sector. A panel discussion thereafter moderated by Cornucopia Chairman HR and PLCs Senior Company Director Dinesh Weerakkody and leading exporters and industry leaders on the panel will consist of garment and apparels sector Joint Apparel Association Forum Sri Lanka (JAAFSL) Chairman and MAS Deputy Chairman Sherard Amalean, manufacturing industry DSI Group Managing Director Dr. Kulatunga Rajapakse Emeritus, BPM/BPO sector SLASSCOM Vice Chairman and Infomate Private Ltd., a John Keells Group company CEO Jehan Perinpanayagam, tea sector Tea Exporters Association Chairman Sanjaya Herath, transport and logistics Expolanka Freight Ltd. Director/CEO Jagath Pathirane, and hotels and tourism Mount Lavinia Hotel Chairman Sanath Ukwatte.
The webinar will conclude with a question-and-answer session where participants will also have an opportunity to discuss practical applications and obtain clarifications via chat option.
