CMA seminar on ‘Budget Highlights 2019 – Tax Proposals and Impact on Business and Economy’ on 11 March

The Institute of Certified Management Accountants of Sri Lanka (CMA) will conduct a seminar on ‘Budget Highlights 2019 – Tax Proposals and Impact on Business and Economy’ on Monday, 11 March from 8.30 a.m. – 12.30 p.m. at the Cinnamon Lake Side, Kings Court. The focus of the seminar will be to highlight the important aspects of the Budget 2019 covering the economy and taxation with special emphasis on corporate and personal taxation, VAT and miscellaneous taxes and the impact of new taxes on business and the economy.

The seminar will be inaugurated by the Chief Guest State Minister of Finance Eran Wickramaratne, and he will address the gathering on the ‘Budget Highlights 2019’. The welcome address will be delivered by the CMA – Sri Lanka President Prof. Lakshman R. Watawala. The presentations on ‘Highlights on Tax Proposals in Budget 2019’ will be delivered by the Department of Inland Revenue Commissioner General Nadun Guruge, and ‘Taxation Proposals in Budget 2019’ by Ernst & Young Partner Nishtar Sulaiman. 

After the presentations there will be two panel discussions with the participation of senior Government officials, business leaders, academics and experts from the sectors of economy taxation, business, banking and industry. The first panel discussion will discuss the ‘Impact of Budget Proposals on Economy’ moderated by University of Colombo Economics Department Prof. Sirimal Abeyratne. The panellists are Institute of Policy Studies of Sri Lanka Executive Director Dr. Dushni Weerakoon, University of Colombo Business Economics Prof. H.D. Karunaratne, Central Bank of Sri Lanka Senior Deputy Governor Dr. P. Nandalal Weerasinghe, and KPMG Tax & Regulatory Principal Suresh Perera. The second panel discussion will discuss the ‘Impact of Taxation Proposals on Business’ moderated by Ernst & Young Partner Duminda Hulangamuwa, with Gajma & Co Senior Partner N.R. Gajendran, Department of Inland Revenue Senior Commissioner Ranjith Hapuarachchi, Cargills Bank Ltd. Sri Lanka Joint Deputy Chairman/Ceylon Chamber of Commerce Chairman Rajendra Theagarajah, and the National Chamber of Commerce President Asela de Livera as panellists.

This seminar is suitable for professional management accountants and financial managers and accountants, directors, CEOs, managing directors, managers and executives in the fields of marketing, human resources, IT, transport and logistics, finance, stock market, tourism and telecommunications.
