The Ceylon National Chamber of Industries (CNCI), the pioneering chamber for industries in the country, has organised a webinar on tripartite agreement and payment of salaries during the restricted periods. The webinar will be held on 15 July at 10 a.m.
CNCI Secretary General Abeyratne Muthugala stated that the Sri Lankan industrial sector has been badly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The majority of the industry operations were so paralysed that the companies were in dilemma to make salary payments to their employees and to manage their working capital. For the sake of the social and economic wellbeing of the country, the two important elements of both the industries and the employees should be protected. In such a background, the tripartite agreement between the Employers’ Federation of Ceylon (EFC), trade unions and the Ministry of Labour has been a great relief to the local industries.
The tripartite agreement ceased with effect from 30 June 2021. However, there are lots of requests from the private sector to get the agreement extended due to the difficulties they are facing with this pandemic situation.
He mentioned that this webinar will be very useful to the companies and it will be conducted by Yashoravi Bakmiwewa, Assistant Director General (Advisory Services) of the Employers Federation of Ceylon (EFC) who is an Attorney-at-Law by profession. Yashoravi is currently heading the Training Division too at EFC and also is a reputed trainer.
The areas expected to be covered at the webinar include an overview of the situation, leave and holidays in the private sector, managing employee absenteeism during the pandemic period, handling the issue of payment of salaries/wages to employees during the restricted periods due to pandemic and application of national tri-partite agreement to pro-rate wages.
It is their expectation and pleasure for you to make use of this opportunity to update and enhance your knowledge in order to serve your institution and the internal and external customers with better understanding. You may register early by contacting CNCI secretariat by phone or through [email protected]. Discounts will be given to the companies sending three or more participants.
