COMPLAST Sri Lanka 2018, the complete plastics exhibition in its fifth edition, together with its organisers Smart Expos & Fairs India Ltd., The Plastics & Rubber Institute of Sri Lanka (PRISL) organised a regional launch session in Galle recently under the patronage of Galle District Secretary Somarathna Vidanapathrana.
Over 50 CEOs from the plastics industry participated at the event. In addition to COMPLAST Sri Lanka 2018, COMEXPO 2018 – the complete manufacturing expo, will be organised this year. This event is supported by Ministry of Industry and Commerce and co-organised by the Industrial Development Board of Sri Lanka (IDB).
The main business to business (b2b) focused exhibition COMPLAST Sri Lanka 2018, formerly known as Sri Lanka Plast, will be opened from Friday, 10 August to Sunday 12 August at BMICH Colombo. COMPLAST Sri Lanka is an international trade fair for plastics and will be held in Colombo. COMEXPO 2018 will be a one source platform for all manufacturing needs including sourcing, trading. These exhibitions are a knowledge sharing platform wherein the exhibitors from other countries like India, China, Taiwan, etc., will be show casing their technology and machinery to the industry in Sri Lanka. Visitors from the Plastics Industry of Sri Lanka can find in depth and comprehensive information on the latest developments in machinery, material and technology in the field of plastics. The event will showcase over 150 exhibitors from 15 countries. The highlight of this fifth edition is there will be close to more than 12 live demos of machineries that are being showcased. There is also an increased participation from the local companies as exhibitors. Exhibiting countries include Sri Lanka, India, China, Taiwan, USA, German and others.
Display profiles include raw materials, polymers and resins, blends and alloys and intermediaries and composites. Specialty chemicals, masterbatches, additives, colorants, fillers and reinforcements. Precision machinery, moulds and dies. Equipment including converting equipment-printing, decorating, slitting and rewinding, laminating, bag and pouch making, testing equipment, software solutions, recycling plants and training institutions.
COMEXPO – the complete Manufacturing Expo also show cases machine tools, logistics, electrical, etc., that will facilitate the manufacturing sector needs. In this expo, there is a major participation from the IDB facilitated companies, especially from the Small & Medium sector of Sri Lanka.
PRISL Vice President Kaushal Rajapaksa said, “Exhibitions are the drivers of any industry. They play a catalytic role in the growth of the sector as they showcase current development both in machines and materials related to the sector. They also facilitate the adoption of new and appropriate technologies at affordable cost. They accelerate the growth of the sector and thereby create new entrepreneurs and new employment opportunities.” He further added, “Sri Lanka’s plastic industry is getting a facelift with the Ministry launching a new national initiative to upgrade it. Annual plastics consumption in Sri Lanka is close to 250,000 metric tonnes, with an estimated growth rate of 18-20%. Around 1,000 factories are engaged in plastics processing for both domestic and international market, the bulk of them being in SME sector.”
The organisers – Smart Expos & Fairs India Ltd. and Plastics and Rubber Institute of Sri Lanka are confident that this expo will not only drive the growth of domestic plastics industry but also will give a stimulus and push for export of plastics finished products from Sri Lanka.
