COMSATS officers meet Minister of Science, Technology and Research

Commission on Science and Technology for Sustainable Development in the South (COMSATS) Executive Director Dr. Zaidii Junaid and a delegation from Pakistan made a visit to the Minister of Science, Technology and Research on 25 January. 

The objective of the visit is to make the Ministry aware of the capabilities of COMSATS. Sri Lanka is a founder member of COMSATS, where there are currently 27 countries including Asian, African and Latin-American countries.

COMSATS had proposed to have a collaborative S & T University with the Industrial Technology Institute of Sri Lanka. In addition, they proposed to activate the proposal to allocate 1000 scholarship positions in Pakistan universities for Undergraduate and Postgraduate Studies. The Minister promised to expedite the process.

The Minister explained the current activities taken by the Ministry to engage the private sector and general public in the activities of science and technology, especially through the proposed exposition ‘Shilpasena’. The High Commission agreed to participate in the exposition with relevant parties.

The Minister requested the delegation to visit the ITI Malabe and Colombo premises and SLINTEC and discuss other collaborative activities.

Gen (R) Shahid Ahmed Hashmat, Pakistan High Commission Commercial Secretary Adnan Younis Lodhi, COMSATS Director Farhan Ansari, Ministry of Science, Technology and Research Secretary Chinthka Lokuhetti, Ministry of Science, Technology and Research Director Himali Athaudage, ITI Chairman Amal R. Diaz, ITI Director General Upul Pushpakumara, ITI Additional Director General Dr. Radhika Samarasekera also participated.
