The Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) has recommended appointing a three-member committee by the Finance Ministry Secretary to investigate corruption charges levelled against the Sri Lanka Export Credit Insurance Corporation (SLECIC) General Manager.

The recommendation came following a revelation made during the COPE meeting convened on Tuesday, 7 March by its Chairman Prof. Ranjith Bandara where several accusations of corruption were made against the SLECIC General Manager Dilruk Ranasinghe.

Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) MP Madhura Withanage accused Ranasinghe of fraudulently obtaining funds from SLECIC for his personal vehicular expenses, amongst other accusations, adding that he has also received information that SLECIC General Manager had defrauded the State-run agency company by issuing fake bills.

“The SLECIC General Manager should be behind bars or in police custody by now,” Withanage claimed.

COPE recommended that a committee be appointed to investigate these charges and submit a report within three weeks.
