Computer Society of Sri Lanka (CSSL), the nation’s professional association for the IT industry, has expressed its serious concern about the present political crisis as well as the political culture.

In a statement issued by the Executive Council of CSSL, the association states that the present situation has adversely impacted the Information Communications Technology (ICT) industry as well as the related knowledge services sector, as the sector is an export-oriented sector. Investors and clients of the technology sector have expressed disappointment over the situation prevailing in the country, risking Sri Lanka’s technology business opportunities and job opportunities for ICT professionals. As we are promoting Sri Lanka as an attractive destination for knowledge services, this uncertainty has a long-term impact on its business viability.

The CSSL calls all parties in the Parliament to come to a lawful and constitutional settlement as soon as possible to stop further negative impacts to the IT industry, Sri Lanka’s economy, and the country’s reputation overall. CSSL, as the apex body for ICT professionals, calls for professional conduct from all legislators to help the country come out of this situation immediately.

The fact that professionals keep themselves away from key decision-making and governance of the country is not a positive sign. Therefore, the CSSL highlights the need of the hour for more professionals to get involved at the highest possible levels in getting the country into a rapid growth path.
