Cabinet clears to gazette Personal Data Protection (Amended) Act, present to Parliament

The Cabinet of Ministers on Monday approved publishing the draft of the Personal Data Protection (Amended) Act in the Government gazette and present to the Parliament for approval.

“Clearance of the Attorney General has been given to the revised draft bill prepared by the Legal Draftsman in the regard,” Cabinet Spokesman and Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said at the post-Cabinet meeting media briefing yesterday.

On 19 February 2025 the Cabinet approved to amend the Personal Data Protection Act No. 9 of 2022. The proposal to this effect was submitted by President Anura Kumara Disanayake in his capacity as the Digital Economy Minister was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers.
