The Cabinet of Ministers on Monday approved awarding a contract to renovate the Ekgaloya and Riverston tourist bungalows to Central Engineering Services Ltd., under the supervision of the Central Engineering Consultancy Bureau.
These renovations are part of a broader initiative to revive nine State-owned tourist bungalows identified by the Department of Forest Conservation.
The renovation plan follows the recommendations of a committee tasked with developing a strategy for the efficient use of resorts and tourist bungalows owned by Government institutions.
“An estimated budget of Rs. 166.93 million has been allocated for the project, with a target to complete all renovations by the end of this year,” Cabinet Spokesman and Minister Vijitha Herath said at the post-Cabinet meeting media briefing on Tuesday.
He also announced that as part of this initiative, the Government will limit special room allocations for Ministers in these properties in the future. “Moving forward, the bungalows will be more accessible to the general public and Ministry staff during holidays. We hope to increase public usage and support domestic tourism,” he explained.
