The 137-year-old Colombo Tea Auction changed its famous outcry system to a digital auction system in a very short period of time, which was facilitated by the Colombo Tea Traders’ Association (CTTA) and supported by the Colombo Brokers’ Association (CBA) and CICRA Holdings.

At the first e-Auction held on 7-8 April, Kosmodara Tea Factory achieved an all-time record price of Rs. 2,800 for a Low Grown OP1 grade under its selling mark Ceyenta. This line of tea was purchased by M/s.  Vintage Teas Ltd. and was marketed by M/s. Forbes & Walker Tea Brokers Ltd. who exclusively markets Ceyenta Teas.

Kosmodara Tea Factory is situated in Kotapola, Deniyaya agro-climatic district. It is owned and managed by Cyril Wijenayake who is relatively new to the industry, though passionate in producing a high-quality tea. Wijenayake purchased Kosmodara Tea Factory in 2005 and has since developed the factory to a state-of-the-art-manufacturing unit. He has also successfully developed a strong small holder supplier base to which he provides the required extension services ensuring a high-quality raw material, which is a prerequisite to manufacture a high-quality product.

Currently, Kosmodara Tea Factory is ranked amongst factories producing premium quality low grown tea, which is a combination of the commitment from the supplier base combined with good manufacturing practices adhered to at Kosmodara Tea Factory.
