The Chamber of Construction Industry of Sri Lanka recently conducted a successful webinar on the ‘Impact of Supply Restriction on Construction Projects’ with over 250 participants.
The opening topic was on the ‘Macro Economic Development and Prospects’ that was addressed by Central Bank Economic Research Unit Additional Director Dr. P.K.G. Harischandra. This was a broad overview of the country’s present situation and future prospects for the Construction Industry.
The topic on ‘sourcing local raw material for the industry’ was addressed by the Chief Mining Engineer, (RXD) of the Geological Survey and Mines Bureau. An alarming news that was highlighted is that by year 2025 the country would not have adequate river sand to mine and the alternative suggested was M-sand.
Eng. Majith Kodituwakku of the International Construction Consortium spoke of the phenomenal increase in prices of the major building materials and the difficulties encountered in implementing projects.
Chartered Quantity Surveyor Dulesha Wijesiri spoke of the dilemma that contractors face in resolving disputes arising in contract administration.
This webinar was ably moderated by experienced Chartered Quantity Surveyor Upul Shantha.
