G.A. Chandrasiri

Chandrasiri told the Daily FT that he was officially appointed Chairman on 12 December by the Civil Aviation Ministry.

Admitting that he was not an expert on the subject, Chandrasiri said he was ready to undergo a learning curve to better understand the functions and operations of his role. As an administrative official with extensive experience, he said his prime focus now was to make CAASL an efficient state organisation. The primary function of CAASL is to regulate the local civil aviation industry. As a former senior officer in the Army, Chandrasiri served in a number of prestigious roles. He has functioned as the officiating Director General, General Staff at Joint Operation Headquarters until he was appointed Jaffna Commander in 2005.

He was also the officiating General Officer Commanding of 52 Divisional Headquarters from 2002 to 2004. As Commander of the Armoured Brigade from 1998-1999, he earned the respect of his soldiers for his service and commitment to the Brigade.

Chandrasiri was twice appointed Governor of the Northern Province in 2009 and 2014.
