The Ministry of Urban Development and Housing is taking measures to provide relief to around 250 vendors who engage their businesses at Diyatha Uyana in Battaramulla and have been affected by the COVID-19 outbreak.

Most of the businesses, especially of ornamental flowers sellers have suffered due to restrictions on numbers who can attend the park in the past few months.

One of these measures taken is to reduce the daily rent of Rs. 1,500 per stall to Rs. 400, Secretary to the Ministry Sirinimal Perera said.

He said that the monthly maintenance cost for Diyatha Uyana is Rs. 3 million but these concessions are being given to encourage traders.

He also said several new plans will be implemented for the area including a new car park with a capacity of 200 vehicles as well as new recreational facilities.

A meeting to discuss the new projects for Diyatha Uyana was held recently.
