Dr. Ali Asger Shabbir Gulamhusein sues two for Rs. 10.5 b for alleged defamation

Well-known young business leader Dr. Ali Asger Shabbir Gulamhusein has recently filed two separate actions, alleging defamation by Farida Shabbir and Aliasghar Yusuf Tyebkhan, seeking damages worth Rs. 10 billion and Rs. 500 million respectively. 

Colombo Additional District Judge Chamath Madanayake ordered to issue summons to Farida Shabbir and Aliasghar Yusuf Tyebkhan returnable for 5 June.

The defamation actions are alleging that the duo made a false, scandalous and defamatory statement against Dr. Ali Asger Shabbir Gulamhusein regarding to a fall of a parapet wall at premises bearing assessment No. 264, Grandpass, Colombo 14 on 14 February. As a result of the said unexpected incident, 7 people died including his uncle, Taher Gulamhusein.

In the widely published statement made to the Coroner by the Defendant, Farida Shabbir, she stated that she suspects the Plaintiff (Dr. Ali Asger Shabbir Gulamhusein) in regards to her uncle’s death.

The plaint was filed through Attorney-at-Law G.G. Arulpragasam. When the case was supported, Court accepted the Plaint and ordered to serve summons on the Defendant Farida Shabbir returnable for 5 June.  

In the defamation action filed against Aliasghar Yusuf Tyebkhan, it was stated that he made a false, fabricated, scandalous and concocted complaint against Dr. Ali Asger Shabbir Gulamhusein to the Narahenpita Police Station without any substance, alleging that Dr. Ali Asger Shabbir Gulamhusein had hired people to follow and conduct illegal surveillance on Idris Shabbir and Farida Shabbir. He also said Dr. Ali Asger Shabbir Gulamhusein had bought a gun. 

The plaint was filed through Attorney-at-Law G.G. Arulpragasam. When the case was supported, Court accepted the Plaint and ordered to serve summons on the Defendant Aliasghar Yusuf Tyebkhan returnable for 5 June.
