Dr. Schwampe to address Maritime Law Association on Monday

Comite Maritime International Vice President Dr. Dieter Schwampe from Hamburg, Germany is scheduled to address the seminar titled ‘Moving Forward Towards a Maritime Hub’ organised by the Maritime Law Association of Sri Lanka on Monday (18 February) from 2.30 p.m. onwards at the Mini Auditorium of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka in Hulftsdorp, Colombo 12. 

On the invitation of Dr. Dan Malika Gunasekera, Attorney-at-Law, who is also the Secretary of the Association, and being the Provisional Member for Sri Lanka at CMI, Dr. Schwampe is visiting Sri Lanka to address the maritime community in the country consisting of both the lawyers as well as those involved in the maritime industry in particular on ‘History of Comite Maritime International, its Role, and Current Work Program’. 

Comite Maritime International is the international body of maritime lawyers representing many countries, and is instrumental in proposing various legal instruments relating to maritime trade. 

Among its highly-acclaimed work is the York-Antwerp Rules relating to General Average in shipping. This seminar will also feature leading maritime industry specialist Rohan Abeywickrema who speak on ‘Sri Lanka’s Maritime Industry – Past, Present, and Future’ to educate the participants on the importance of maritime trade in Sri Lanka. 

The Maritime Law Association is chaired by leading Senior President’s Counsel K. Kanag-Iswaran and comprises those who are practicing in the area of Admiralty and Maritime Law.
