EDB conducts webinar sessions on entrepreneurship for Development Officers

Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB) conducted entrepreneurship training session for Development Officers (DO) working under the EDB using webinar technology on 7 November. The Development Officers under the Ministry of Development Strategies and International Trade are assigned to work for each regional office, and they are responsible for gathering the needs of the entrepreneurs.

Development Officers are ground level field officers who work closely with the SMEs to groom them as exporters. The main objective of the session was to upgrade the knowledge of the Development Officers enabling them in facilitating to promote exports in the regions.

The development of regional based SMEs is one of the key strategies for the EDB in achieving long term economic and social objectives of the country to ensure greater prosperity for the people of the country.

This is an online transmission of seminar information using video technology. 101 DO’s from Northern Province, North-Western Province, Central Province, Southern Province and Western Province participated for the training session under one platform.

The seminar was conducted by University of Sri Jayewardenepura Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce Department of Entrepreneurship Senior Lecturer Channa Gajanayaka. The seminar was moderated from the EDB head office in Colombo and participants joined the seminar from regional centres of the EDB.

It was an interactive method, allowing two-way communication between the lecturer and the participants. The seminar mainly focused on the global competitiveness, modern business organisation and challenges, entrepreneurial competencies, and the Development Officer’s role in terms of implementation. At the end of the session, evaluation forms were submitted by the DO’s. According to the feedback provided by them 88% of Development Officers mentioned that workshop was good in terms of application of the training program, effectively used the technology and clarity of the content.
