ETF Act to be amended to facilitate health insurance

The Cabinet of Ministers at its meeting on Monday approved issuing directives to the Legal Draftsman to prepare a Bill to amend the Employees’ Trust Fund (ETF) Act.

President Ranil Wickremesinghe proposed to set up a health insurance fund for private sector employees similar to that of the ‘Agrahara’ insurance scheme from which a large number of State employees have benefitted.

The necessary provisions will be made by amending the ETF Act No. 46 of 1980 to implement the aforementioned Budget proposal.

The proposal to this effect tabled by President Wickremesinghe, in his capacity as the Finance, Economic Stabilisation and National Policies Minister was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers.
