Strategically located in an advantageous setting in the Indian Ocean, Sri Lanka has always attracted traders from around the world. An integral part of the ancient Chinese Silk Route, the island has never ceased to draw attention as a maritime hub facilitating trade between the East and West.

Since it was introduced by the Chinese government in 2013 as a strategy to facilitate trade between China and the rest of the world, the Belt and Road Initiative (previously named One Belt One Road) which involves over 150 countries and international organisations has been gaining ground in the region, facilitating infrastructural developments and investments along its route.

Enabling economic growth and development in Sri Lanka through increased investments and accelerated infrastructural development as part of the Belt and Road Initiative, Sino International Business Solutions (SIBS) is driven by the goal of bringing Chinese investors to the island. Echoing the Chinese government’s target of diversifying Chinese investments across the globe, SIBS pursues an objective of bringing 300 Chinese investors to Sri Lanka each with a minimum monetary value of USD 5 billion within a year’s time. The organisation is driven by its aim to enable elite investors from China to explore opportunities in Sri Lanka via mass awareness.

Rolling out the first phase of this initiative, SIBS brought down 30 elite Chinese investors to Sri Lanka yesterday to spend five days in the island, during when they will also be participating at an Investment Forum at Temple Trees, chaired by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe. The group of delegates will also be signing several MOUs and Letters of Interest with local financial corporations, real estate developments, high-tech engineering factories and medical service organisations during this period.

The delegation includes Dr. Wang, who has been integral in linking elite Chinese investors with international opportunities in several countries. He is most known for having successfully initiated the establishment of around 300 investments with a monetary value of $ 5 billion each in Indonesia in 2017, including projects such as industrial parks. Armed with expertise and experience, Dr. Wang has been assigned to work in Sri Lanka following the same model as in Indonesia to kick start investments.
