Evergreen Tea Factory bags two awards for excellent entrepreneurship

The Evergreen Tea Factory was named the proud winner of the Entrepreneurship Excellence Awards for Agriculture and Livestock Management (large category) and Excellent Manufacturing at the Entrepreneurship Excellence 2019 awards ceremony of the Southern Province.  

Evergreen Group Chairman Deshabandu Deshashakthi Aruna de Silva and Evergreen Group Director Deshabandu Dr. Indika Nallaperuma received the awards at the gala event organised by the National Entrepreneurship Development Authority in Galle together with the Matara Chamber of Commerce.

In addition, tea factories owned by the Evergreen Group have won a number of provincial, national and international awards. 

Evergreen tea factories bagged 16 awards at the Black Tea Quality Assessment Competition organised by the Chinese Tea Marketing Association in 2019 in China. In the same year, the Brombil CTC and Orthodox Tea factories secured third place in the large-scale environmentally-friendly category at the President’s Environmental Awards Ceremony. Evergreen Tea Factory came third at the National Productivity Awards 2018. 

At the same awards ceremony, five tea factories of the Evergreen Group won merit and special merit awards. Having entered the tea industry in 1983, Aruna de Silva started his first own tea factory, Evergreen, at Horangalle, Galle in 1985. Today the group has 10 tea factories and two more are to be opened this year. In addition, the group owns the Lavish Tea Company which targets the export tea market. 

Proving the high quality of their products, the evergreen group has received a number of quality certificates, including ETP, RA and ISO. The Evergreen group has created thousands of direct and indirect employment opportunities while contributing to several welfare and religious programs. More than 30,000 tea smallholders supply raw tea leaves to evergreen factories.
