Dankotuwa Porcelain PLC has announced the appointment of Rohan Palitha Peiris and Niranjan Wijesekera as Independent Non-Executive Directors to its Board.
Peiris gained his expertise and experience in setting up and managing manufacturing operations both locally and overseas over a period of 35 years. After completing a B.Sc. (Hons) degree in industrial engineering at the Hatfield Polytechnic in the UK, he returned to Sri Lanka and joined the Hayleys Group in 1983.
Working for its subsidiary Haycarb PLC for a period of 28 years, Peiris held several managerial positions in Finance, R&D, Process Development and New Projects related to the manufacture of coconut shell activated carbon.
In 1993, he headed a team to setup and operate the company’s first overseas manufacturing facility in Thailand. He was appointed a Director in 2001 with overall responsibility for both local and overseas manufacturing operations. In 2012, he took over as the Managing Director of Alumex PLC and continued until his retirement in 2018. During this period the strategic initiatives implemented significantly improved profitability and he also supervised the expansion of its production capacity with an investment in a second manufacturing facility. Peiris continues to work with small manufacturing operations on an advisory basis.
Wijesekera is a business consultant counting over 30 years of senior management experience across diverse disciplines in the corporate world. Having commenced his corporate journey at Reckitt and Colman, Wijesekera spent most of his career at MAS Holdings, playing leadership roles as the General Manager of Triumph International Lanka (1995-2001), CEO of Prym Intimates Sri Lanka (2001-2007), CEO of Stretchline Sri Lanka (2008-2012), and as the CEO of MAS Brands (2013-2018).
His final assignment at MAS was to oversee its corporate communications function (2019-2020). Wijesekera holds a MBA from the Postgraduate Institute of Management, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, a MA in Financial Economics from the University of Colombo, as well as a Diploma in Marketing (CIM UK).
