Gotabaya Rajapaksa
The Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FCCISL) in a statement yesterday congratulated President Gotabaya Rajapaksa for his victory at the Saturday’s election and called for immediate action to revive the stagnant economy.
Following is the full statement of the FCCISL.
We would like to congratulate your Excellency President Gotabaya Rajapaksa on appointment as the Seventh Executive President of Sri Lanka.
We observe that your election happened at a time when the country is in dire need of a new directive on national security, economy, governance and political culture.
FCCISL being the apex body of Sri Lankan business community fervently request H.E. Gotabaya Rajapaksa to take necessary steps to create a conducive business environment to flourish businesses with a special focus on SME’s which is the backbone of the Sri Lankan economy.
FCCISL stands for trade and investor-friendly business environment to benefit the country and its people. We also stands for free flow of goods and services across boundaries while pursuing policies to safeguard and promote the legitimate interest of the domestic manufactures.
FCCISL was addressing the issue of not having a clear national policy for the development of the different business sectors in Sri Lanka. We take this opportunity to request you to have your immediate attention on this matter for the benefit of the businesses and to develop the entrepreneurship in Sri Lanka.
Finally, we wish to request the new administration to review the global market access strategies of the past and to adopt a more practical approach to all future trade agreements. FCCISL and its island-wide membership representing over 25,000 local businesses would like to extend the support to your Excellency President Gotabaya Rajapaksa in implementing much-needed development programs to uplift the economy.
