The Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Sri Lanka (FCCISL) recently introduced a digital platform to issue online certificate of origin (COO), bridging the technological gap and meeting a big challenge posed by COVID19.
The new digital platform is expected to provide greater convenience to its members who are in need of certificate of origin. Under this digital platform the customer can register, apply, check the status of the application and finally receive the duly signed certificate of origin reducing the lead time and human intervention.
Speaking about the new transition from manual system to digital platform FCCISL President Shirley Jayawardena said: “This has been a need for us for some time and the challenges posed by COVID-19 due to frequent lockdowns and work interruptions due to health regulations. We are happy to note that we launch this new digital platform at a time when the country is trying to increase its export volumes to meet the issues related to balance of payment. We request the business community to take the advantage through the new digital platform, which provides unmatched benefits to exporters.”
Elaborating on this competitive advantage FCCISL Secretary General/CEO Ajith Perera said: “Our certificates of origin consists of auto generated special QR code and it provides all the information regarding the certificate of origin to any party who scans the QR code. This is the first time in Sri Lanka a client can see and obtain 100% information on what is included in the COO. We have realised that this is a unique benefit to the customer to ensure 100% accuracy of the COO of his supplier. However FCCISL will continue to issue certificates of origin using the manual system for those who wish to call over during office hours at FCCISL.”
FCCISL has announced a one-month trial period with a nominal fee to all exporters in the month of August to experience the new convenience before deciding to formally join. All interested parties can join the digital platform by browsing the website or contacting Fathima on 076 7823246 or Jeevani on 070 5999590. FCCISL is the apex body of the Sri Lankan chamber movement with strong trade links with South Asian and Asia Pacific trade chambers.
