Fake Casio watch dealer fined Rs. 200, 000

A watch dealer at Majestic City was fined Rs. 200,000 by Colombo Additional Magistrate Priyantha Liyanage for selling and keeping fake Casio watches.

The outlet was raided by officers of the Colombo Crime Division on a complaint made to them, recovering 59 fake Casio watches kept for sale at the outlet.

The owner of the shop was charged before the Colombo Chief Magistrates Court and the accused pleaded guilty to all charges. The magistrate imposed a fine of Rs. 200,000 to the accused.

Senior Counsel Deshan Hewavitharana instructed by Sudath Perera Associates represented the interests of Japanese Casio manufacturer Kaisanki Kaisha Casio Computer Co. Ltd. during the hearing. The magistrate also ordered the Registrar of the Court to destroy the fake Casio watches.
