Fertiliser imports for paddy cultivation in Yala season

The Cabinet of Ministers at its meeting on Monday had approved to import Muriate of Potash or Potassium Chloride fertiliser for paddy cultivation in Yala season. 

It said that the approval was given following competitive bids and the fertiliser will be disbursed among farmers under the Government Fertiliser Subsidy Program.

The Government said that it is expected to cultivate about 600,000 hectares of paddy in this Yala season and it has been estimated that about 38,500 tons of Muriate of Potash fertiliser will be required it. The proposal to this effect tabled by Agriculture Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers.
