Finland Industry Federation members keen to invest in Sri Lanka

Helsinki: The representatives of the Confederation of Finnish Industries have said that they are willing to invest and explore business opportunities in Sri Lanka.

Finnish industry representatives expressed their interest in doing business with Sri Lanka at a breakfast meeting held with visiting Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe on 10 October at the federation headquarters in Helsinki.

The representatives of the federation said that already there is an investment and business friendly environment in Sri Lanka and they are willing to become more involved in investment and business opportunities in Sri Lanka.

Prime Minister Wickremesinghe said that the era has dawned to change economic concepts to suit the new world economic trends. The regional market concept is old-fashioned now while the global market concept is the trend therefore industries should continue to understand this reality.

The premier said Sri Lanka was in the process of economic restructuring to become more export-oriented.

Deputy Executive Chairman of Wartsila Kari Hietanen said the aim of Sri Lanka to develop as the hub of the Indian Ocean was very important.

As Sri Lanka and Finland are two small nations which stand for the same economic and social goals, a common platform has been established to strengthen economic and social ties.
