Fire outbreak at Ecocycle pre-processing premises – Katunayake brought under control

Building before the fire


In the early hours of the morning on 3 February, a fire was reported at the Ecocycle premises in the Katunayake Free Trade Zone. 

The fire was quickly and efficiently brought under control with the immediate help and support of the Airport and Aviation Fire Brigade, Sri Lanka Air Force, Sri Lanka Navy, Katunayake Board of Investment (BOI) Fire Brigade and the Fire Service Department – Colombo alongside the guidance of the Disaster Management Centre. 

The cause of the fire is reportedly currently under investigation. Once the investigation is completed, Ecocycle has stated that they will take additional measures to further strengthen the safety aspects of their operations.

The Company expressed its heartfelt gratitude to the BOI, Central Environment Authority, Sri Lanka Police, Legislative Bodies, District Factory Engineering section of Ministry of Labour and PHI – Katunayake for their valued cooperation extended in assisting to manage the situation urgently.
