An invoice of Golden Garden Broken Orange Pekoe (BOP) grade offered at the Colombo Tea Auction held yesterday, for sale equals the All Time Record for the grade achieving a very high Rs. 1,550 per kg.  Golden Garden teas are manufactured at Ever Green Tea Factory in Talgaswela of the Galle District.

This tea was purchased by Shan Teas Ltd., one of the leading exporters of Ceylon teas, and was successfully marketed by Asia Siyaka Commodities PLC.

This price realisation was particularly significant considering the weaker market that prevailed at the Auction. Prices at the Colombo Tea Auction have been under strain due to the continual sharp rise in shipping freight charges which in many instances have increased more than 300% this year. Short supply of containers, delayed calling of ships are resulting in higher costs and inefficiencies that erode exporters’ ability to pay up for Ceylon Teas.

Golden Garden teas which are well known for its excellent teas regularly tops the market for many grades sold at the Colombo Auction. This factory is owned by Aruna de Silva.

This factory is managed by Directors Dr. Indika Nallaperuma and Senal de Silva, General Manager Lasantha Alwis, Factory Manager W.P. Susantha and Production Manager P.A. Saman Buddika. This team has successfully maintained quality over time and have gained a reputation for excellence.
