Govt. allocates Rs. 16 b to purchase fertiliser for Maha season

The Government has allocated Rs.16 billion to purchase organic fertiliser needed for farmers in the 2022/23 Maha season, Agriculture Minister said.

“Despite the economic crisis, received the full backing of the President to get approval from the Cabinet of Ministers which was prepared to secure funds to purchase fertiliser,” he said, meeting with a group of trade union representatives.

Minister Amaraweera also noted that the Government has taken all measures to support the farmers so they do have a successful Maha cultivation season.

He added that district-level committees headed by the respective District Secretaries have also been appointed to distribute chemical fertiliser needed for farmers in the 2022/23 Maha season.
