Govt. requests vehicle importers to clear goods from H’tota, Colombo ports

The Government yesterday requested vehicle importers to clear as many as 7000 vehicles from the Colombo and Hambantota ports without delay.

Cabinet spokesman Minister Bandula Gunawardana said that there are 6600 uncleared vehicles at Hambantota and around 500 at Colombo, which must be cleared promptly.

“We hear some importers don’t want to take the vehicles out as there are no sales, and hence they are allowing them to remain at the Ports, but this is leading to a problem as it takes up a major storage of space, ” he said. Cabinet approved the appointment of a Committee headed by DIG Muditha Pussella to assist vehicle importers clear their vehicles from the Port, he said.
