  • Keep selected registered Ayurveda dispensaries open
  • Permit travel of Ayurveda doctors to treat critical patients
  • Delivery of medicine through Postal Dept.

The Government yesterday pledged support for the Ayurveda sector by implementing several measures, including increasing imports of herbal plants, facilitating medicine delivery, and keeping selected registered Ayurveda dispensaries open.

Several decisions related to the Ayurveda medical sector were taken during a meeting of the Special Presidential Task Force on Continuous Supply, Operation and Coordination of Essential Services at Temple Trees yesterday, led by Basil Rajapaksa and Health Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi.

These were: to keep all Ayurveda hospitals open during curfew; to permit at least one registered Ayurveda dispensary in every Divisional Secretariat Division to carry out activities during curfew via mobile services; and to make arrangements to import coriander, ginger and calumba wood (venivel), which are being heavily consumed in this period.

Decisions also included approval to grant travel permission to doctors who are registered with the Department of Ayurveda to treat critical patients at the patients’ residences during curfew, and to permit the delivery of medication through the Postal Department to patients who are registered for long-term treatment with the Department of Ayurveda.
