Eminent financial services firm HNB Finance fortified its social development efforts by sponsoring a seminar for more than 300 Ordinary Level mathematics students from Colombo, on 27 October at the New Arts Theater of the University of Colombo.

The educational programme was conducted in conjunction with the University of Colombo’s Sarasavi Mithuro organisation and the Sasnaka Sansada Foundation. Each student, who was slated to sit for the upcoming Ordinary Level exam, had recorded test scores below a benchmark of 40 marks.

The seminar saw the participants receive remedial lessons from expert and experienced tutors of the Sasnaka Sansada Foundation. The students also took part in a special motivational session conducted by HNB Finance’s Head of Training Anura Udawatta, with its Head of Marketing Udara Gunasinghe also in attendance.

“As a trusted provider of financial solutions to customers from every segment of society, HNB Finance is acutely aware that its own progress is closely linked to the growth and development of local communities. This is why we attach great importance to social initiatives such as our recent O-Level mathematics seminar,” said HNB Finance Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Chaminda Prabhath.

“The O-Level exam represents a crucial step in the academic life of a student, and a poor performance at this major public examination can offset his or her progress and confidence. Furthermore, strong mathematical skills form the basis for success in a number of professions, especially those within the financial sector. These facts considered, I think seminars such as this play a vital role in shifting a student’s academic trajectory towards a path of progress.”

Established in 2000, HNB Finance Limited is licensed as a registered Finance Company by the Monetary Board of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka. Maintaining an extensive island-wide presence across 48 branches and 21 service centres, HNB Finance has over the recent past expanded into new fields of business and now offers Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) loans in addition to savings, gold loans, education loans, home loans, personal loans, fixed deposit facilities and leasing products.
